Opinion: ‘If Michigan Avenue is dead, Chicago is dead’ – Crain’s*

With the exit of Macy's and other retailers, the Mag Mile needs to be reinvented. "If Michigan Avenue is dead Chicago is dead."

Here’s an idea. A big show of PT Barnum scale will surely bring more foot traffic to the area. How about a large seating area similar to the Roman Coliseum along the sidewalks. People can sit and sip their Starbucks and wait for the show. Suddenly a large group of wilding youths will appear and randomly attack people who are in the stands and leave them naked and bloody. Oh, wait. Never mind, it is already being done, only without the seating.

Chicago is a city in decline- It will continue to decline as long as the citizens continue to vote clowns in elected roles- Last one please turn lights off.
I have no interest to do anything in city anymore- shopping, entertainment, easting out all in the suburbs now.

Wasn’t there just some poster on here the other day saying that he lived off Michigan ave for 5 weeks and any announcement of its death was premature?

It is not dead. They need more foot traffic. Macy left some 300,000 sq feet. Think how many section 8 people would fit. Would bring back traffic and lots of entertainment to Michigan Ave.

Gosh Crains, have you walked on Michigan Ave lately? its already dead. It was killed by Mayor Lightfoot, Gov Pritzker and Kim Foxx. What business is willing to open a store that will be looted by a mob every few months? What visitor or shopper will visit an area to be car-jacked, robbed and forced to flee before nightfall? This is ALL on BLM, ANTIFA and their enablers in the IL Democrat party. Period.

Crains isn’t even worth the paper it’s printed on. They run an entire article on issues facing Michigan Ave with one small sentence in passing about the looting and rioting that took place this summer? Macy’s was one of the retailers hit the hardest. In fact if I had to guess I bet their insurance would not cover them anymore at water tower for how many times it got picked over.

The Chicago democratic machine is solidly behind the ferals who committed crimes and the domestic terrorist organization blm who destroyed the Chicago retail economy in exchange for ghetto votes.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
