In Illinois nursing homes, tens of thousands still waiting for COVID-19 vaccinations: ‘This is beyond an emergency’ – Chicago Tribune*

The delays, compounded by a lack of clarity, frustrate families and senior advocates who have watched as the virus tore through facilities across the state, accounting for roughly half of the nearly 19,000 COVID-19 deaths in Illinois. Nearly a thousand outbreaks are still considered active in Illinois facilities.

More ppl should be aware that a few months ago, Harvard researchers (and NYT had articles agreeing!) , concluded & stated that the test for covid is much too sensitive, so much so that 90% of the positive results are from people who had so little covid in their body or nostrils, that they had no symptoms and would not be contagious to others. My simple brain tells me therefore, that 90% of the covid deaths were caused by other factors, and the deceased had an insignificant amount of the virus. Thus we’d be down to ~ 40,000 covid deaths,… Read more »

“My simple brain tells me therefore, that 90% of the covid deaths were caused by other factors, and the deceased had an insignificant amount of the virus.” That would be a false assumption. For your assumption to ring true one would have to assume that those testing positive with little virus are evenly distributed among mild, moderate and severe outcomes. The people dying in the hospitals clearly are showing symptoms and their viral load is most likely much higher and realistically doesn’t fall into the false positive category. I’m not arguing the validity of each COVID death certificate but your… Read more »

“I’m not arguing the validity of each COVID death certificate but your conclusion that 90% of the deaths are not from COVID isn’t accurate.” My understanding is that COVID is not the cause of death on many death certificates but is listed as a contributing factor. COVID likely hastens death for elderly and obese with co-morbidities. So dying with COVID is counted as a COVID death for the daily COVID pr0n figures. That being said, the coronavirus does rampage through nursing homes and LTC facilities like a bull in a china shop. Maybe those deaths would have occurred 3 months,… Read more »

IT IS, BEYOND NICE WORDS TO, I WISH TO EXTEND MY OPINION, TO THE THING THAT TELLS FAMILY AND LOVED ONES THEY CANNOT VIST THEIR LOVED ONE IN A NURSING HOME OR HOSPITAL WHEN THEY NEED YOU AND YOUR LOVE THE MOST.

Equity requires that young, healthy BIPOC receive the vaccine before old, elderly white people. There were too many White people were born in the 1930′, 1940’s and 1950’s. It’s not fair, or equitable, that old white people get the vaccine first. There are just too many other BIPOC who need the vaccine to overcome the 1619 virus. JB is doing his part – in equity – to make sure that old white people die an early death.

At my father’s central Illinois nursing facility, we’re told that 85% of the residents have received the vaccine.

But, they advise, only 50% of the staff have agreed to take the shots.

Since none of us are allowed to actually visit our family-member residents – I haven’t seen my father since March of last year – it’s pretty certain that the only way that virus is getting into the facility is via staff.

Odd, isn’t it? All kinds of arm-twisting inflicted on residents and their families to take a vaccine that the facility’s own staff won’t accept.

How “Illinois”……

THE MANDATE THAT WE CANNOT VISIT OUR LOVED ONE IN A HOSPITAL OR NURSING HOME NEEDS TO . END . IMMEDIATELY! WITH ALL THE CONTROVERSY BEHIND THIS SYNTHETIC, EXPERIMENTAL WUHAN VIRSUS VACCINATION, I REFUSE TO TAKE THE VAX AND DO NOT BLAME OTHERS FOR NOT WANTING TO TAKE THE VAX. PEOPLE ARE DYING AFTER TAKING THIS VAX. THE DEMOCRATS AND THEIR MEDIA ARE HIDING THIS FROM YOU. DEMOCRATS ARE NOT TELLING THE PUBLIC THE TRUTH ABOUT THE WUHAN VIRUS, IT’S TREATMENTS ARE BEING DENIED TO THE PUBLIC, OH, BUT NOW A MEDICAL JOURNAL HAS JUST REVERSED ITS OPINION(LAST WEEK AFTER… Read more »

Great job Pritzker, you ignored are seniors and veterans since day one, now again same thing you prioritize prisoners for the Covid-19 vaccine, just another vote getting scheme on your part appealing to the black caucus in Springfield. Now the teachers move to the head of the line because it’s about the children again another old line. You have failed miserably Pritzker you have politicized COVID-19 amazing how your mind is changing since Biden has taken office by opening up the state. One question Pritzker are you trying to eliminate are seniors are vets? I’ve just so had it with… Read more »

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
