Indiana lawmakers propose up to $8,500 payments for remote workers to move to state – Center Square

“There are folks looking to live in a state that’s maybe a little more tax-friendly environment, regulatory-friendly environment,” said state Rep. Martin Carbaugh, R-Fort Wayne, who sponsored the bill. “I really look at this as a coupon for people to take a look at us.”

Note the name in the headline ” workers ” meaning as time goes on Illinois is on a path to becoming a fully populated welfare state that will trade its electoral votes to the Presidential candidate that promises the most welfare.

Funny how this just popped up — my lease expires in 6 months and I’ve been very seriously scouting for a new state to move to. The main reason is I am sick of apartment living and want to live in a proper home.

But there is absolutely no way in hell I could ever justify buying a home in Illinois. Even after you pay off the mortgage you will be getting reamed with ever skyrocketing property taxes. Unless you are filthy rich, home ownership in IL is the dumbest investment a person can make.

I just checked U Haul rates.
From Rockford to Fort Wayne in a 26″ truck is $620
From Fort Wayne to Rockford is ” ” $292
From any other state to Illinois you get a free trip to the insane asylum.
No one seems to want to move from there to here. Smart people!

Great idea Indiana! Very inviting.

What incentives does Indiana have for a small business to move there?

Jelly Belly will counter that by charging people $10,000 to leave the state.

Yes we will go if it gets approved. Fail to plan. Plan to fail.

The public as a whole has never understood that the states are each others competition just like Amazon and Sears. Unfortunately, Illinois is like Sears, no longer a concern to any competitors.

If this gets approved they’ll have plenty of takers.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
