Chicago Alderman Floats Idea of Allowing COVID-Vaccinated Residents Hold Block Parties – NBC5 (Chicago)

"If we are to try to resume some normalcy, then we have to help people get past their fears of vaccinating and show that the sooner we get vaccinated, the sooner we're able to come out of our homes, the sooner we're able to do the things we miss," Ald. Raymond Lopez said, calling the proposal a "carrot versus a stick" to be used to motivate residents to get vaccinated.

The black and brown community has been having block and house parties since the beginning of the pandemic. The two week Mexican independence celebration caused the giant uptick in cases. Now we want to reward irresponsible behavior with more nonsense.

Equity, my friend. Who are you to judge the cultural norms and behaviors of BIPOC, even if it spreads wuhan virus throughout the community? We mustn’t expect them to change their behavior to stop the spread, that would be systemic racism against communities of color.
