As long as people in southern Cook continue to elect criminals like Gus Savage, Mel Reynolds, and Jesse Jackson Junior, they are emphatically choosing their fate.

The federal government transitioned years ago from defined benefit (Civil Service) to defined contribution (Federal Employees Retirement System). Illinois could do the same.

An underfunded defined benefit pension is a Ponzi scheme. Underfunded retiree healthcare is a Ponzi scheme. Converting certain southwest Cook County suburbs from Republican to Democrat was one of the keys to Michael Madigan’s historic reign as House Speaker. The free money incentives the government is providing for home ownership is a problem for many that have no way to forecast their tax bill. The free money should come with a financial and debt analysis and projection of all the local,county, state, and Federal governments for each tax paid by the the homeowner.
