Senator who sponsored cash bail ban is outraged: Driver who threatened him with gun only had to post $1,500 to get out of jail – CWB Chicago

“By him being released on bail, he’s free to do this again,” Sen. Elgie Sims told the State-Journal Register. Yet just last month Sims tweeted, “money bond doesn’t guarantee public safety or someone’s appearance in court, it supports a system where freedom is based on the size of someone’s bank account. We’ve tried the failed tough on crime polices [sic] of the past.”

I really cant tell if he’s a hypocrite or an idiot. Maybe both. An idiot for not thinking critically about his vote and a hypocrite for thinking critically about his vote when he gets a taste of it.

This article reads like the Onion. But even better, it is not parody. I am laughing every time I read it.

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
