Union members only for new Chicago vaccine site! – Updated – Quicktake

From WBEZ: “Through a partnership with the Chicago Federation of Labor, the vaccines for unionized workers will be provided out of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 399 headquarters at 2260 S. Grove St. near Chinatown.”

And Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s comment, from WBBM: “Since Chicago first received COVID-19 vaccines, our highest priority has been to vaccinate our most vulnerable residents and essential workers as quickly as possible. Unions are trusted messengers and dedicated advocates for thousands of Chicago’s essential workers, and this collaboration will ensure that workers with the highest need will have access to the vaccine as we enter Phase 1C.”

You can sign up here – with proof of union membership, that is. Here’s what is says is required:

Proof of Union Membership – You MUST SHOW PROOF of union membership when you arrive for your appointment (union card, receipt of dues payment, email invitation direct from the union regarding this vaccination event, etc.) to be allowed into the vaccination site. This site is for union members only. If you are not a union member or cannot prove that you are, you will not be allowed to enter.

Note that dues must be paid up, too.

And, what a coincidence, according to this Tweet from @CitizenVMachine

On the same day Chicago announces COVID vaccination site for union members only:

deposits $52,800 check from CFL member

“Equity has been the guiding light for the rollout”of the vaccine, Lightfoot said earlier.

And science, of course. It’s all based on science.

-Mark Glennon

Near me are two General Motors dealers where one is union and one is not. Oil changes at the union facility is $10.00 higher than the non-union facility. Additionally it seems when going to the unionized facility there is alway some pesky extra cost maintenance item I seem to be needing; one of which I got a second opinion on and found wasn’t really needed. My thoughts are that the union facility looks for non existent items perhaps in some type of job security thing. Regardless I will no longer go there and will strictly deal with the non union… Read more »

I managed a property once and the tenant was a unionized grocery store. If I hired a non-union contractor then they always found something to complain about.

Political patronage is rewarded again, in this instance, in blatant FU fashion. There’s no tangible greater risk for potential Covid exposure amongst Operating Engineers (to laymen, glorified janitors who operate industrial HVAC and boiler equipment in designated mechanical rooms). Membership in the Operating Engineers Union in Chicago includes many precinct workers, many former or current Bridgeport-Canaryville loyal-Dem residents who’ve long sustained Chicago’s Machine politicians. Please read Gus Russo’s excellent book about Chicago Machine politics and mob connections: Supermob.

The City of Chicago discriminates against non-union employees.

““It’s our union, essential workers that make up the backbone of the city.

That’s why we’re especially proud of this unique partnership,” Mayor Lori Lightfoot said Monday.”

If union employees were excluded, the unions would file a grievance.

Yup, the trib articale called it a city-labor partnership, so therefore you would assume taxpayer city resources are involved.

This is truly unbelievable. People who really need the vaccine can die because the union members will get it first.

Here are some job titles of the “essential” union members who will get vaccinated before you: Business Agent, Business Manager, Organizer, Legislative Director, Political Director, Grievance Representative, Dues Processor…

Equity, after centuries of labor being exploited, its only fair that labor go to the front of the line.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
