This is a major extension from the previous 60-day limit. A waiver submitted in 2019 by the state to the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services was recently approved.
Illinois is one of the only states I know of that is proud when they expand Medicaid coverage. I’m happy that new mothers get good medical care. But going back all the way to Blago, then Quinn, and now Pritzker– they issue press releases bragging about the expansion of Medicaid coverage. I guess no one pays attention any longer to the reality of Medicaid–it is for people who are too poor to provide their own coverage, or don’t have coverage through employment. This might be the first law I’ve seen in Illinois in a long time that actual supports mothers having children. Sorry Kelly Cassidy, not ‘individuals’ but women the article says. The State of Illinois encourages, more like celebrates, the abortion and makes it as easy as possible to kill preborn.
It’s just too bad this medicaid expansion law is slimed with ‘equity’ and does so only to support BIPOC instead of motherhood itself.
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
