Capital Township could vote on merger with Sangamon County government under legislation – State Journal-Register (Springfield)

Seventy-four percent of township voters supported a merger of Capital Township with the county in a November 2018 advisory referendum.  But Springfield Ald. Joe McMenamin said the referendum’s results were skewed because voters “weren’t aware that the better consolidation is with the city government as opposed to the county government.”

No mention or comparison of unfunded pensions, retiree healthcare, bond debt, etc. in Sangamon County and the City of Springfield.

Proportional share of the debt by merged Capital Township taxpayers is a logical criteria.
