Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. The criminals walking free are the entitled group Foxx needs to keep her in office. In 2020 there were almost 1000 murders in all of Illinois. In Chicago there were 792, that’s the real number which includes expressway murders which the city doesn’t use in their official reports. Around 40 people in 2021 have been charged with murder or have shot people while out on “affordable bail” yet Foxx, Chief Judge Evans and County Sheriff Dart deny that fact and continue to push for releasing dangerous criminals into the public.
