Teachers’ union leads effort for state to control non-public, home schools during health emergencies – Illinois Review

Ironically, the Illinois State Board of Education and the Department of Public Health is reportedly opposing the amendment that will add non-public schools to their oversight. It's the Illinois Education Association - one of two major teachers' unions in Illinois - that is pushing HB 2789.

This isn’t a new goal, but it’s a new angle. Teacher’s unions seem to have endless energy and resources to “kill the competition” and eliminate anything that provides liberty and freedom to people. It’s one thing to not like the unions or disagree with them, and both parties go their separate ways. But that’s not what they want, because communists don’t like you having choices. They will not be satisfied until they have eliminated all of my choices and forced me to bend the knee. My eyes turn red whenever I read crap like this. I believe that these people… Read more »

Based on my interactions with our “public servant” betters I would completely agree.

They hate the general public, small business owners, parents and constituents.

Because we all know that they know best, and if only we would just shut up and get out of the way.

Get out of our homes and personal lives. CTU already takes much of our money and fails kids massively.

“CTU fails kids massively” ignores the simple and obvious reality that the schools in those areas, generally speaking, face a truly uphill climb with parents and a culture who literally have no concept as to the attitudes they as families need to instill a desire to pursue the drudge work of anyone seeking an “education” as most middle class suburbans see it at least. That can’t be the sole responsibility of teachers, try as they might to overcome poor parenting and community mores that just do not value classical education. All they care about in most cases is that schools… Read more »

And yet when it comes to violence, those same progressives want to blame everything on policing and racism? Nobody wants to extend the very valid culture problem discussion to violence and the criminal justice system. My own belief is that until the underlying culture of violence is eliminated, all the money in the… Read more »

Two months ago, IEA was complaining the state wasn’t able to meet its commitment to increase education funding this budget year. Now they want to add an unfunded mandate? Get bent.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
