A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.

At what point to public employees stop being “essential?” Once holidays were moved to “the Monday following” we began to get it. Next step: Summer holidays will entitle teachers to extra days off during the academic year. Always on a Friday or a Monday. How about counting up the paid weekday holidays and letting taxpayers have that many days annually when we don’t have to pay taxes? Start with 13 holidays and add 10-15 paid vacation days for non-teachers. So at a max, we get less than 11 months work from a public employee in exchange for salary, benefits, together… Read more »
