Target’s not coming to Water Tower Place, alderman says – Chicago Sun-Times*

Ald. Brian Hopkins speculated that the criticism and last year’s violence downtown may have led Target to give up on Water Tower. “They’re never going to say that, but I did get the sense that we needed to have a good summer season with minimal incidents” to help the area recover this year, he said. “And that applies to the residents as well as businesses.”

When businesses know that their stores, merchandise and employees are all at risk if the hooligans decide to go on a rampage at the drop of a hat, they stay away. Lori and her minions will try to strong arm national chains but they are tired of taking losses because Lil Kim won’t charge anyone with anything but misdemeanors. Game over Lightweight!

Sorry, I have to correct you. You said “if the hooligans decide to go on a rampage.” It is no longer “if” but rather it is “when.” That is a certainty with the lack of anyone who is competent at city hall.

Walmart is a much better quality store than Target. Unlike Target Walmart has a massive menswear department. Landing a Walmart would be huge for the mag mile.

Wow! A fine chain like target passing up a wonderful opportunity. How about an O’Reily’s auto parts flagship store. Lori, nobody is coming back! You could put on all the happy nonsense you want, nobody is coming back! Isn’t she proposing some kind of craft market on State Street? Encourage victims to gather in a central location; much easier pickings.

Bummer! A company with a bullseye logo in downtown Chicago would make a perfect fit.

Why would target want to come here after the 4th of July wildings with teens with guns? Lori has traded chicago’s Economic future in exchange for south and west side votes. Lori, Foxx and the chief judge have a multitude of excuses justifying crime because of fake racial equity and poverty stories.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
