Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. The state’s existing buyout program for its own pensions is the precedent for Chicago, which should be a warning: Look out for similar exaggerated claims and shoddy analysis.

CWB blog-site posts video of two white men being attacked and beaten by about a dozen black men (in total) on 400 N State St block. This wasn’t a “mugging”; it’s violent, it’s apparently racial-motivated (since none of the other black people in video are being attached and beaten by these “muggers”). Yet there’s no media attention otherwise, no chest-beating cries from city hall or Brown’s office. We live in a hypocritical time, where it’s extremely dangerous to be in downtown Chicago, or in entertainment-zone River North, at night.
