Southern Illinois reported zero available ICU beds this week – Quad City Times

“This is not a ‘pandemic of the unvaccinated,’ but a pandemic that affects everyone as emergency and routine health care collapses for a region,” said a statement released Tuesday by the group Illinois Medical Professionals Action Collaborative Team, known by its acronym IMPACT.

It would be good to know how many total ICU beds are available in all the hospitals. Many smaller hospitals may only have a few while larger ones have many more. Out of all the ICU beds how many are Covid patients and how many are surgical cases. Staffing is a large problem since an ICU unit can be put up quickly but getting qualified personnel is difficult.
There are 3,138 ICU beds available in all of Illinois and there are 508 beds available according to IDPH

ICU unit can be put up quickly but getting qualified personnel is difficult is spot on. I assume you do realize the intense schooling involved to become a ICU nurse and the cost. My daughter is a RN and is contemplating going back to school, but like she said being a ICU nurse pays extremely well, it is also extremely demanding, and ya better know your shit.

My wife used to work as an ICU nurse and it takes years of training. She also worked as a float pool nurse wherever she was needed. Look at all the nurses who may quit or get fired if they do not get the vaccine I think by Oct.1st. Then what? Best advice is to keep out of the hospital.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
