“being the best you can be” translation: ‘do your best, even if the White Boys Club keeps a fence and walls around your potential’. Why should that be enough for minorities and women? A white man can easily claim they achieved everything by their own merits and abilities….but that is the crux of white privilege. The privilege part is invisible to the white population. Minorities and women who are equal in every way to their white male counterpart very clearly see the benefits of “fraternalism.”

“The privilege part is invisible to the white population.” It is amazing how the left sees things for which there is absolutely no hard evidence. And no, different outcomes is not evidence of privilege. There are many other factors involved.

Do you believe in ghosts too?

Molly, one thing that never seems to come up in these conversations is affirmative action. Wouldn’t you agree that It has been aggressive and systemic for some 50 years? It seems to me that most of us whites go out of our way to give a break to minorities and, for that matter, anybody who has been underprivileged. What’s your reaction?

If wokefoot were a true progressive, philosophically she would be push for the same deals as are Tier I CTU or city worker taxpayer funded $multi-millionaire$ for all. But instead what’s being proposed is not a comprehensive plan, only feel good temporary “get in line” down on the farm equity handouts, doled out through supposed community group violence interrupter, contract tracer, job training, mental health, etc programs. Or if your a political friend of your alder-critter. Is anyone in city gov keeping track of all the equity/ free stuff giveaways? Andwer NO

Let’s review Lightfoot’s brush with systemic racism. She grew up in Massillon, OH, which well-known for its high school football prowess, not race riots. Then, somehow, she got into and graduated from the University of Michigan, apparently a hot bed of racism in Michigan. Hence on to the University of Chicago Law School where she overcame “massive racism” to get a JD. Whew! Exhausting! Lightfoot. Lighthead. Groot. Ghetto Girl[for her vulgar, profane language] – whatever she’s called has certainly benefitted from this racist society to which she now gives a kick in the teeth while enjoying police protection. A century… Read more »

Pod fills a need for state and local. I hope you stay out of national politics. You might wind up having to ignore Trump if not praise MAGA and Orange Versailles. Many have lost the high ground by sucking up to to crazy illiberal seditious Republican Party.

State and local politics are national politics now, because Washington is trying to federalize almost everything. We have no choice.

If dems pass $3.5 trillion bbb (build back better), will any of those $ be distributed to states & municipalities as grants with no restrictions to keep the free stuff /wokester pay-o-la $ flowing? Or will all bbb $bucks be distributed directly by feds/ fed programs? Or who knows, pass it to find out what’s in it? Maybe this is long game wokefoot & the machine are banking on? Or will city & state be able to borrow even more based on their cut of bbb $bucks?

postscript: I found this excerpt on how to teach students to be constructive: “We should begin by helping students understand that the American economy of the 18th century—and the work people did in it—was barely emerging from the Middle Ages. As Robert J. Gordon documents in The Rise and Fall of American Growth, this was a world where 50 pounds of wood or coal had to be split or toted every day for every household, where 50 gallons of water had to be hauled every day from pumps or springs for washing or cooking, and where forced labor of varying kinds… Read more »

Another good dialogue.

CRT and BLM (and numerous other “initiatives” aimed at improving the lives of urban non-whites) have been seized by opportunists. To name two: Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson.

This seizure also includes the rewriting or editing of history. I recently ran across this linked discussion of slavery by academics who are likely left of center but who add perspective to the discussion. Worth a read by those who have the time and inclination.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
