Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. I live in the Mag Mile and you know what I worry about more than shop lifters? GETTING SHOT. The cops in Chicago feel ENTITLED to a job, but they don’t want to DO the job for which they are hired. They prefer to tie up their week investigating the theft of a candy bar. Fox is right for telling them to bring her REAL CRIMINALS to prosecute. Donna, I take it you don’t own a retail business in the mag mile? How long will any business stay located in your area if anyone is allowed to walk in and steal $999 worth of stuff? If they do stay who do you think will pay for this stuff? When they raise prices to cover their loss will you continue to shop there or will you eventually go save money and shop in an area that doesn’t allow shoplifting? The central planners’ shoplifting reform has resulted in increased shoplifting and disinvestment and thus negatively impacted LGBTQ and BIPOC business owners and communities.

To answer the question about what is being done to stem the tide of retail theft rings, answer it honestly. Nothing. Kimmi, Timmy, Toni, Lori and apparently Brian all want it that way. Equal outcomes- if you don’t feel you should have to put in some work (effort) to purchase that expensive item, in Democrat dominated Chicago, it is perfectly acceptable to just steal it. Good luck future shop owners.

Not to worry folks. Michigan Ave could use 3 wig shops, 5 nail salons, 2 fish stores and a couple of storefront churches to glam up the street. Throw in a dollar store or two and bam, back to the good old days.

And then the mayor will close Michigan Ave to traffic and make it an open mall, like they did to state st when they put the final nail in the coffin.
State st. came back 30 years later. Now it’s mostly a strip of sneaker stores and a Target.
I still have my original state street brick in the garden. Remember when they told people to come down and take the old 1800’s bricks when they ripped up state street and cobbled it over with those ugly octagon asphalt pavers? What a disaster that mall was, god I forgot all about that.
Med Men ( legal pot store) is booming in other towns- it would bring tremendous business to Mag Mile
It’s not just retail merchandise stores that have given up on downtown Chicago, and Fox-Lauri-n-Pritzker.
Restaurants. Taxpaying employees who would rather work from their couch than their downtown office. Landlords who rent the offices. Union trade workers who build and maintain them. The list goes on and on.
About the only thing that there isn’t “less” of in downtown Chicago is “Guvmn’t”.

This is how Detroit slid into collapse. Bit, by bit over many years, then a sudden accelerated failure. People who hold out thinking it can’t possibly get that bad will ultimately lose out. It’s sad and a shame, but it seems to be what people want.

Lori alone had the opportunity keep Chicago open but like every other blue state authoritarian she chose to shut it all down and destroy it. Now she believes she can remake a more equitable Chicago, where everyone is equally as poor and equally as likely to be a victim of crime.
