"The congressional aide said he informed state officials that Amazon and others are using the Rockford airport as a cargo hub but eyeing an airport in Gary, Indiana, because it is closer to Chicago-area distribution centers, (Rick Bryant, an aide to U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly) said. Illinois risks losing business to a neighboring state unless it acts, he said. 'I told them our competition is really Gary,' Bryant said. 'We need to focus on building this before Gary builds out.'"
The population of our country has approximately doubled in 50 years. The airport will be built now, or in the future, it is inevitable. You either embrace and adapt to change or get rolled over by time. Wouldn’t it be nice to drive 10 or 20 miles to catch a plane. The jobs it would create would be high paying good jobs. Look at Kankakee people could purchase beautiful homes and remodel them and bring life to a dead or dying city. Think of all the businesses this would bring to Kankakee. I grew up by O’Hare and I was… Read more »

The Peotone Airport was nothing more than an urban sprawl scheme in the late 1960’s when it was first proposed. It has never achieved more than a failed real estate strategy. It has never been proven necessary as an aviation solution for the Chicagoland area. It is just not needed. It never has been and never will be. Politicians have been pushing for this for so long, they apparently don’t even know why anymore. Learn the history of this boondoggle and recognize that if it was a good thing, it would have already been done. Give it up already!

What’s wrong with turning Midway into a Cargo Hub? It would be a great opportunity! Just lengthen the runways, upgrade the pavement rating! Like build back better it would be zero cost. Build a warehouse in Burke’s back yard. So ya have to wreck a few homes and lives. Look at all the business CFD would have. Cargo planes fall out of the sky like rain. They also burn quite well sitting on the ground.
Just like Good Fellas! Need some money? Go rob the airport. Years ago a gold shipment was purloined. A gold bar was left behind in an air freight high value office. It was discovered years after the crime all dusty and dirty, being used as a door stop!

Idiot Rauner killed the Illini Tollway project. Without better access around the lake an airport in Peotone remains a pipe dream. And I’m talking just for cargo. Forget about passenger travel, I live south and still wouldn’t use peotone over midway.. Illinois could be the nation’s cargo hub, it pretty much falls into our lap due to geography. But from someone who knows well the nightmare of travel around the lake, we’ve pretty much let that opportunity slip past us, by cancelling the Illini road projects. From Joliet to the border we see a huge warehouse a week being built… Read more »

Lol, a new airport is nothing but a huge boondoggle. Unlimited opportunities to steal. Scott AFB and MidAmerica Airport fiasco built it and hey might not come.

Is she naïve to the fact that Gary is probably more cost effective than anything Illinois can offer.
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.

The planes would be looted in minutes and then they sell the planes at pawn shops. Do you wanna but a 747? How bout a nice 727?
