State pays off $2 billion COVID loan it was outlier in taking – Center Square

Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza said with the loan now paid off, Illinois taxpayers will save $82 million in interest payments. “With this early repayment, we take another important step toward restoring fiscal stability and predictability to Illinois. I can’t stand seeing taxpayer money wasted on interest – that’s why paying off this loan early was so important for me.”

Illinois is one big pyramid scheme. They can’t get enough of freebies from the federal government. They hate $82 million in interest, but apparently love BILLIONS in pension debt. Seems as if the priorities are a little out of whack.
