No school Friday as Chicago cancels classes for 3rd straight day – WGNTV (Chicago)

Testing remains one of the union’s most significant concerns as it relates to students’ return to in-person learning. CTU members believe two weeks of remote learning would not only limit exposure amid the wave but help both city school leaders and union heads formulate a better plan moving forward.

Why have school at all? The standardized tests show the failure of the school system. Disband it, save the tax dollars and life will go on.

Hey, that seems good to me! No more school taxes. There are some obvious downsides, though. We would have all the ramped-up problems that children with nothing to do all day are going to create—bad for civilized society generally and bad for them individually. We’d likely go back to the era of children working at young ages and being preyed upon in various ways because of it. Then, only the children of richer people would attend schools and have the greater economic advantages later in life that accrue from it. Chicago schools will open back up after January 17th. If it’s good enough for IL SOS then it’s good enough for CTU members. Yet magically all the kids will receive good grades and everyone graduates. The fraud being perpetrated by the CTU will damage all the lives of the young people entrusted to it. These young people are the most likely to stay in Illinois and get saddled with the task of bailing out this fiscal nightmare.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
