Cook County Judge Raúl Vega is retiring under a cloud of allegations – Chicago Reader

The survivors...denounced a judicial accountability system that they said allows judges to protect their own and will allow Vega to retire without facing consequences for his alleged actions. “It’s his turn to be held accountable to the same thing that everyone else in this world is held accountable to,” said Elizabeth Francy, whose divorce and child custody case was heard by Vega. “Misogyny in his courtroom has been rampant for years, and it’s time that Cook County does not allow it to happen.”

I am not a lawyer but I am married to one so I have a little familiarity with the process. On the one hand, you can vote NO on retaining judges; but on the otherhand, the Cook County Democrat Party slates the judges, and they’ll just end up being replaced with some other political appointee. The most important criteria for a judge to be slated is fealty to the Democrat Party (which is why no judge will ever cross the D party line w/COVID) and secondly, diversity.
