Opinion: The Democrats’ Plan to Fix Inflation: Squeeze Blue-Collar Americans – Newsweek

Sen. Dick DurbinSenator Dick Durbin, Democratic whip and one of the loudest proponents of his party's Build Back Better Act—which offers work permits and de facto legal status to 6.5 million illegal immigrants and would be the largest amnesty in U.S. history—gleefully noted that the bill would put downward pressure on incomes. "If there are more workers filling those jobs, it's deflationary." In other words, Democrats' talking points in favor of the bill are actually some of the strongest arguments against it.

Durbin has been a tragically inept senator for his Illinois constituents. Duckworth is abiding by his incompetent example, and equally worthless to state residents.

And decades-long “War on Poverty”, with its many Fed Programs, created an acknowledged powerful employment-sector network, massively subsidized by tax dollars, enabling many fast growth of non-profit and for-profit organizations, in addition to the many individual state, federal, and local governmental agencies, and enabling significant “corporate” salaries to their leadership and well-compensated management teams, which spur political contributions to those politicans advocating more funding yet to those agencies and organizations.

Charity. Begins. At. Home.
According to the USA Census Bureau (2020) : The official poverty rate in 2020 was 11.4 percent- up 1%. That’s 37.2 million people in poverty- 3.3 million more than 2019. Plus a conservative estimate of 600,000 to 1.5 million homeless.

There are all kinds of subsets of society that individually believe they are “you.” You can’t please everyone, and its a fool’s game to try.

In Illinois the plight of blue collar workers is immaterial to the Democrats. Their support comes from the State employee unions and the welfare set that always votes vs the rest of the State that doesn’t vote

Durbin should have been taken to the wood shed years ago and given a stern whipping with a sturdy switch. A mist useless individual.

Do Nothing Durbin hasn’t had a value added thought in decades. He thought he had one once, but it turned out to be gas. He is offensive and ineffective in equal parts. Just go away already.

Durbin’s value is a consistent reliable vote for the Democrat party on every issue, and a consistently reliable vote against republicans on every issue.

That’s an odd picture of Durbin, a borderline scowl stepping up to the microphone. Usually he’s so excited to speak, the front of his pants are soaked!

Of whom does Durbin have pictures? I fail to understand his tenure.

Don’t know about pictures, but his patron was, maybe still is former Alderman, now indicted and awaiting trial, Ed Burke.

None of the Chicago media will challenge Durbin on the huge negatives of amnesty on average Americans. The Chicago media are just shills.

There is no media in Chicago. Political cheerleaders for Lori and HogHead. I haven’t watched local news in years, it’s not worth the aggravation.

Stupid is as stupid does. Nothing surprises me anymore about Illinois. Except maybe having enough brains to toss Durbin and Pritzker out with the trash.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
