Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Too bad the kids doing the poetry slam didn’t name all the officers who died in the line of duty. It would be a much longer … year-to-date 2022 the count stands at more than 60 dead officers. Most died at the hands of criminals in the act. That the children stated in their ‘slam,’ and obviously believe, that the only reason those named died was because of the color of their skin is appalling.
