Dozens of Chicago cops guard mayor and family in below-the-radar security unit created in 2020 – Chicago Sun-Times*

Unit 544 began with a handful of officers and has grown, as of March 21, to a roster of 65 officers, five sergeants and a lieutenant, city records show. Like previous Chicago mayors, Lightfoot also has a separate personal bodyguard detail, which includes about 20 officers, the records show.   Lightfoot didn’t name him, but she said former President Donald Trump has a lot to do with it. “When the president of the United States uses the world’s largest megaphone and platform to target you personally, terrible things happen. And he not only blew a dog whistle, he pointed really evil and dangerous people right at my doorstep,” Lightfoot said.

The bigger the ego, the bigger the security arrangements. The police, after examining the guys CCL, probably pointed him to the mayors house! She’s a treasure!

Nothing new here folks, the mayors detail always had a huge staff of officers. Detail officers have shuttled kids to school and after school activities, shopping trips with wives and husbands, guarding the homes and summer homes, travel around the world, protection 24 hours a day, every day. Bonus money for the assigned officers with a very good chance of getting that “merit” bump to sgt, Lt or above.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
