Arrest rates have dropped over past few years in Chicago as crime rates go up – CBS2 (Chicago)

In 2022, there have been at least 2,422 robberies, but only 145 arrests – which is 41 percent less in 2022 than in 2019. Meanwhile, there have been 3,980 motor vehicle thefts this year – but only about 136 arrests. That amounts to about three of every 100.

Between the no chase policy and the pro-criminal attitude of the courts and Kim Foxx’ department, why should the police bother to arrest anyone? They didn’t sign up to be “catch & release cops” but that’s where we’re at.

Does anybody out there think that the cops are actually trying? Here’s the answer, nobody, a few, on the PD are willing to risk their job, pension, family, life or future to go out and arrest bad guys. One mistake, an extra click on the cuffs, a wrong word any minor error and the tables are turned. The cop is now under investigation and hung out to dry. Meanwhile the criminal walks out of court with no bond, a free lawyer and a dozen social justice outfits lining up to sue for damages. It’s only going to get worse. Believe… Read more »

Going fetal aka the Ferguson Effect. For decades criminologists debated the reasons why crime dropped so precipitously from the mid-90’s to 2016, maybe even through 2019. Some argued it was the removal of lead from gasoline, others said it was the legalization of abortion killed in the womb generations of future criminals, others said it was the broken windows theory of policing, and some argued it was the mass incarceration of criminals. The answer now is obvious to everyone: incarcerating criminals make it impossible for them to commit crimes and discourages others from committing crimes.
