Report: Illinois leads nation in number of governments, driving up property taxes – Center Square

The report shows that Illinois serves the fewest people per government unit of the ten largest states.

As an example. Where I live, north central Illinois we have a single high school district, one HS with about 2200 students. A district superintendent plus staff. There are 4 feeder schools all their own district each with a district superintendent and staff. One has two elementary schools, one has one elementary school, one has 4 elementary schools and one has three. So 5 district superintendents along with the associated staffs and budgets.
