‘Look at Chicago’: Politicians again use city as example of why strict gun control won’t work even as Texas school shooting jolts local parents – Chicago Tribune/MSN

Gov. J.B. Pritzker responded on Twitter saying “shame on you,” to the Texas governor, posting a news article showing that most of guns used in Chicago crimes come from outside of Illinois. “You are lying about Chicago and what actually perpetuates gun violence,” Pritzker said. “The majority of guns used in Chicago shootings come from states with lax gun laws. Do better. You have 19 kids and two teachers who deserve our best.”

Pritzker and Lori Lighthead are both lying scumbags.

Many of the guns in Chicago come from south of the border and were never registered anywhere.

Pritzker and Lightfoot are not interested in cracking down on crime.

At Cabelas right across the border in Hammond,on a Saturday, you can get a high from the residual pot smell coming off customers clothes,so yeah don’t doubt its happening. The police will watch when people buy illegal fireworks from right across the border than stop the cars and take away the fireworks, why not do that with guns ?

You cannot buy a handgun from a legit source, in Indiana and take it home to illinois. It has to be sent to a federally licensed dealer in Illinois where you will have a state and federal background check along with presenting your FOID card. A rifle or shotgun may be purchased if the Indiana retailer will sell it, some dont/wont especially those retailers on the Illinois Indiana border and you still have a prescribed waiting period before you can take the firearm with you. It’s a federal crime to sell handguns interstate with severe punishments if caught. Private sales… Read more »

I didn’t know that, thought you show your FOID card, and the transaction would take place in Indiana only difference being the foid card. Why do so many people cross the border, and pay FFL,and shipping fees ? There are Cabelas, and Bass pro shops all over Illinois, and its also not one of the cheaper shops.

Here’s how an “illegal” gun gets into chicago. Gang member 1 has a cousin who lives in Indiana who has managed to keep his nose clean and doesn’t have a record. Gang Member 1 asks cousin to buy him a glock17. Cousin goes to Gun shop and legally buys gun. Cousin lies on form 4473 saying he is buying the gun for himself breaking Federal law. Cousin meets Gang Member 1 in Indiana or Illinois and sells the firearm violating yet another federal Law. Cousin reports gun stolen shortly thereafter. No person in the good ole USA can buy/ sell,… Read more »

Nice summation. Lots of people are unaware of the regulations about handgun sales especially Pritzger and Lightfoot along with a host of dumb ass politicans.

“BuT tHe GuNs CoMe FrOm iNdiaNa?!?!”

To think, all this time, I’ve had such easy access to firearms yet it has never once occurred to me to go over there to stock up on guns and ammo and go on a crime spree. Same goes for 99% of the Chicagoland population.

We’ve got people here making the conscious decision to purchase firearms and use them in an illegal and violent manner. More so than other places.

So what if guns in Chicago come from other states? I guess that IL’s problems. Maybe IL should control problems within its own borders before pointing fingers.

But it’s IL/Chicago residents using the guns and. Not for self protection.

No gun can commit a crime. Only people using guns commit crimes. Where the guns come from is completely irrelevant. But it is a typical disingenuous argument from politicians who really could not care one way or another.

Perception, perception, perception.

You can throw all the stats at me…St Louis and Memphis are more violent, guns come from other states, yadda yadda…the perception is Chicago is a crime-ridden city. All other reasoning falls to the wayside.

Population of Texas in 2021, almost 30 million. Population of Illinois in 2021, slightly under 13 million. So those valued researchers havent figured out that Texas with over double the population of Illinois will always have more crime. The sad fact is there were about 1300 murders in Illinois in 2021, 800 of those were in Chicago, about 62% of the total. There were around 2900 murders in Texas for 2021, a little bit more than double the Illinois rate but if Chicago was in Texas it be 28% of that states homicide numbers. Chicago wins. Pritzger sucks and so… Read more »

I still have not seen Pritzker comment on the mass shooting in our fair city. 9 people shot, with 2 dying, at Chicago Ave and State Street 6 days ago. This was not trumpeted in the national news as it is so routine around here and the shooter was the wrong demographic. JB says / does nothing. But when he can get some free press from a shooting 900 miles away, with the right demographic, he is all over it like flies on shit. How about helping us Illinoisians out and cleaning up your own house, you idiot.

Just looked at Chicago Covid deaths for the month of May =11.

According to the Hey Jackass site there have been 43 gun shot deaths so far this month.

Think we might be focusing on the wrong thing?
I think we should provide free Kevlar body armor to residents of Chicago.
We can buy them with the unspent Covid relief funds.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
