A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
In 1993, now-Ald. Jeanette Taylor (20th) was an 18-year-old single mother of three, including a newborn. The baby’s father was in jail. Wow, three kids at the age of 18 But that’s the tip of the iceberg… I finally got a call back in 2004 to tell me my son who just graduated high school couldn’t be on my lease. If her son graduated in 2004, unless he skipped a few grades, was born in 1987. If Taylor was 18 in 1993, that means she was born in in 1975. That means she had her first child…at age 12?! I read this article and I find her life story disgusting. 18 with three children and a criminal baby daddy. Then she doesn’t pay her bills, moves from apartment to apartment, using all the free government aid she can get. Gets a job as a community organizer before being elected to alderman and taking another government salary. This is an American horror story.
But, that’s her story. Wishing it were more rosy won’t make it so. So, to what fate would you find it right to assign her from this day forward—prison, indebted servitude, or charity as it pertains to her children particularly? Let’s hear it, oh wise one.
And yet her story is nothing more than a story of government dependency her entire life. I’m sure she would have found a way, and that’s her own path to make. Even two generations ago in America, and even in most countries around the world, few if any women would have three children out of wedlock before 18 because it is shameful and harmful to society. In what world is this OK? It’s not just her life story, its my judgment of her lifestyle that all of us collectively pay for.
I agree, but you’re evading my question. What should be her fate now and maybe forever more in terms of further government financial support and/or punishment? I’m thinking more about the welfare of her children, but if you don’t feel likewise feel free to weigh forth accordingly.
Not sure about her children, I don’t hold children responsible for the sins of their parents. As for future assignment of her fate: I don’t understand what you’re trying to say. I’m expressing outrage at her past. She’s not a good person, she’s a made many, many mistakes which we as a society collectively pay for and now she’s a communist DSA member running Chicago. One would think that her history of supposed hardship and hard work would make her a capitalist, give her community the bootstraps to make it in America in 2022. LOL, I totally forgot Taylor is one of the Chicago DSA city council members. Does socialism and communism look favorably upon those who have multiple children before they’re 18?
This NYT article from 1974 on Soviet mothers is interesting: “The idea that some American women want to stay at home and raise children astonished on Russian woman. ‘Don’t they want to get out of the house?’ she asked.”

Well, the only point I really wanted to highlight here is that making judgments hastily is often easy re the primary person whose future is involved, but the details of how it will work often impacts more than that immediate person. So, the decision should really take into account the totality of the situation. You seem to get that. Congrats; you pass!
To her credit, it sounds like she busted her butt working and trying to continue her education. But I just can’t fathom having multiple kids before turning 18. One accident, sure. But two? I guess once the second baby comes along, all bets are off after that. What’s her stance on abortion? Did she pursue it? Did her mom force her to go full term? Most people who supposedly work their butts off and pick themselves up by their bootstraps appreciate the value of a hard days’ work. But this communist DSA member looks at her (supposed) hard work and effort and says, “Nah, I can’t expect anyone else to work hard like I did, instead, I’ll just vote to give you everyone else’s stuff for free!”
All the more reason to abolish CTA — give developers tax breaks to build low income — don’t make it a regulatory mandate that drives away investment
