Is J.B. Pritzker The Democrats’ Only Hope For 2024? – Current Affairs

"A FDR-style presidency is the bare minimum it will take to keep this country from lapsing into Christian Fascism, and if we are not to have a proletarian revolution anytime soon (and let us still hope that we do), we at least need a Democrat who does more than absolutely nothing. I look over the country and the only one I see who conceivably reaches that threshold is J.B. Pritzker."

JB is an utter moron. Please run. 1) either he loses spectacularly because he’s a moron, or 2) he wins…. In which case we learn, definitively, that Illinois is lost – and likely the concept of the USA, as well.

The author doesn’t understand that JB manages the state under super-majority rule. The perception that JB “gets things done” is the direct result of being in the same political party as the Legislature that holds all the cards. There is no opposition, no one to say “no”. It’s ideological totalitarianism. Pretty much whatever JB wants, JB gets.. You would need a significant number of defections from Democrats for JB has to truly compromise on anything, and those that did would be quickly cut off from the Welch/Harmon (FKA Madigan/Cullerton) money machine. When JB has to truly compromise – find a… Read more »

Progressives run the state. JB,.as a progressive, merely rubber stamps their agenda. There’s an unwritten rule that Democrats must vote Yes for all progressive bills in the legislature, because if they don’t, they will be primaried from left by a fellow progressive Democrat. It’s happened many times. JB is getting things done because the progressives are like the Bolsheviks completely giving IL its first taste of the Great Reset: green energy, criminal justice reform, higher taxation for everyone, abortion access for everyone, sanctuary state, anti-agriculture and intensive farming, etc. He merely signs his name to the bill and takes credit… Read more »

Here is a polling site that projects that Pritzker will win. You can look at any state projections. I will take a photo today and see how the projections will change based on how Bailey does in his campaign and upcoming debates.

Bailey is going to need a lot of very smart help very quickly to have any chance of beating Pritzker because silly as this article is, most voters in Illinois believe this nonsense. I saw a Bailey campaign sign roadside last week. Picture of Bailey looking just as much like a businessman-farmer as he could on sign that made his campaign seem all about agriculture. If Bailey runs a campaign aimed at getting 70% of the rural-n-downstate vote he’s going to get 30% or less of Chicago and Cook county and Champaign and Bloominton/Normal et al, and Pritzker’s going to… Read more »

This election is about turnout. No one is on the fence about JB or Darren – their views and philosophies don’t overlap even one bit. Darren needs massive demoralization of D voters in Nov and a Red Wave to take him over the top. And 178% of downstate votes. Who cares if there are more votes than voters in these smaller counties. If you dare question the results, you’re a conspiracy theory bigot BlueAnon seditionist. Yes Adams County had 125,000 votes all for Bailey. Cope more, election ‘bit lie’ deniers…Yeah JB, your 120% turnout in some Chicago wards is going… Read more »

Bailey must hammer Pritzker for running to be a temporary governor.
Commercial lede:
“JB Pritzker intends to leave Illinois and all its problems behind and run for President if he gets re-elected. Just Say No to a part-time governor”.

I don’t see how Bailey will even come close to beating Pritzker for IL Governor. IL is the most left-leaning state in the Midwest. Bailey is way too far to the right. Even with the corruption and greed in place in IL, most moderates will likely vote for Pritzker. Also, Pritzker will get about 100 percent of the State of IL worker and retiree votes. They want to keep the gravy train, I mean locomotive, speeding ahead.

“most moderates will likely vote for Pritzker.”

This is what everyone thinks, yet, independents and moderates these days are breaking hard from the Democrat Party. No one thinks the red wave will spill into IL politics. We’ll see, I guess. I’m waiting for the polls to come out.

Mark and debtsor, I appreciate your feedback, but the anti-Pritzker primary voters shouldn’t have voted for such an extreme right winger like Bailey in this left-leaning state if they want to unseat Pritzker.

Bailey only way to win is if he primarily talks about pocketbook issues to the voters in the middle. Everyone is hurting. He has to go after the people who voted down Pritzker’s Fair Tax. He should also tie Amendment 1 to the Fair Tax.

Bailey isn’t convincing anybody to vote for him. Neither is JB. I can’t imagine there are truly undecideds left in IL. We know the hardcore R’s will show up in Nov. no matter what – that’s 40% of the vote right there. The question is what % of the D’s and independents who dislike JB but can’t bring themselves to vote for Bailey fail to vote in November. Low Ind/D vote turnout combined with the Red Wave could be enough to give Bailey a win. Turnout was 20% this primary. Very low. There’s some demoralization right now in the D… Read more »

“extreme right winger like Bailey”

Extreme hahahaha … Bailey’s views are pretty normal in the Republican Party these days. Very mainstream. Calling Bailey ‘extreme’ is playing right into the hands of Democrats.

So, raffling off an AR-15 and not supporting abortion in cases of rape and incest are very mainstream Republican Party views? Yikes.

debtsor

Yes. I would call this mainstream especially in rural and exurban areas.

The ‘rape and incest’ fake news boogeyman is Democrat propaganda. Those cases are less than a fraction of 1% according to the Guttmacher institute that tracks abortion. Rape and incest abortions are a distraction from the real reason why over 97% of women get abortions: convenience. Democrats bring up rape and incest because they think it’s a gotcha to use on Republicans. And your comment plays right into that….

Can JB withstand the extreme scrutiny of a national election? Has the toilet scandal been resolved at the county level ?Talk about a slow roll! He stated he was furious about the Highland Park shooting. That’s a daily occurrence in Chicago. Chicago doesn’t even get a Harump! That’s Lori’s problem. He’s needs to pay attention to the state, the entire population hates him!

What is this ‘scrutiny’ of which you speak? Dems are NOT subject to scrutiny … it must be written somewhere in the holy book of journalism. If they were subject to this ‘scrutiny,’ there would be nationwide stories about the WH’s attack on fossil fuels, how U.S. involvement in Ukraine is NOT in the country’s best interest, Hunter Biden’s laptop, the tyranny of the WH executive orders (we do have a legislative branch, let them do their job), Biden’s violation of the separation of powers, the absurdity of the J6 nonsense, the travesty of the open southern border, the Afghanistan… Read more »

Don’t be so cynical! Have you no hope in Chicago’s hard hitting journalism? Maybe coverage from the I Team? I think in a contemplative moment facing the wrath of Tucker Carson and Laura Ingraham might give him pause. Somewhere in history someone got fabulously wealthy by being honest and doing the right thing with clean hands. I suspect the Pritzkers have more skeletons than Holy Sepulcher.

Nathan Robinson is a scary individual. Not only is he anti American and anti capitalism, apparently he’s completely delusional. If Governor Jabba is the Dems best hope in 2024 the time has come to celebrate. The Illinois Dems may think he’s swell, but moderates across the country don’t want the “Illinois” model for their state. There’s too much to dislike about the silver spoon, offshore trust fund egomaniac. Go ahead JB, run.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
