Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Chicago police force should be i.e. doubled, and the ‘gloves should be taken off’. Then offenders should be prosecuted and, if guilty, put in prison with tough sentencing requirements. Of course there is no money for more police and greater incarceration, cause almost all revenues goes to Tier 1 public pensions. Yet our elected officials do NOTHING to reform public pensions, and attack the pernicious political corruption in IL.
