Democrats Win Full Control of Government in More States – Route Fifty

“The big picture, of course, is: nothing really changed that much,” said Chris Mooney, a professor emeritus at the University of Illinois Chicago. “We’ve gotten so polarized that you don’t have the random Democrat being elected in a Republican state and vice versa. Everybody’s got their teams and they’re running with them.”

Pick a side and move to that state. Move somewhere red and make it redder.

Illinois is not the same state we were born in or grew up in. That state is long gone.

If we accept all of these results throughout the Country as being legitimate. In the Polling that was done they stated 70% of the Country is dissatisfied with the economy, crime, illegal immigration, pornography and critical race theory in our schools. If that is accurate polling and I believe it is than The election results defy logic.

On Fox News on election night they also showed a poll that said almost 70% of the country thought abortion should be legal and racism is a major problem in this country. Go on reddit and read all the comments from socialist supporters who are not happy with the economy but think Republicans are worse. There are many issues that voters believe that don’t perfectly align to either party. People can also believe the economy and country are headed in the wrong direction but not believe Republicans are a better choice. The Republicans need to move on from hateful/abrasive rhetoric… Read more »

I think this is a bad take. Republicans had a far higher turnout this midterm compared to Democrats. Not even close, it’s about a 6 point advantage in favor of R’s. Many states had R state blow outs – MO, IA, TN, FL, TX, and so on. Republicans are more popular than ever with half the country. But maps that look like this won’t get very many Republicans elected in IL. This is the most gerrymandered map in the United States. The Southern IL districts are R+50. If they spread out those R+50 districts a little bit, we’d have 6… Read more »

Maps like this don’t attract R money, they reduce R turnout, they demoral R’s, and they cause Rs to move to Red states and make them redder.

These blue states with maps like this also aren’t attracting new legal residents, only illegal immigrants.

Again, everyone has their own post-mortems, and our losses overshadowed our wins, perhaps unfairly.

But the R message was great and brought out a big Red Wave, but unfortunately, hyper-partisan maps are the core of depressing opposition party turnout (with few exceptions, like NY).

Yes, we need to remember that some percentage of those who say the country is headed in the wrong direction say that because they believe we haven’t gone far enough left. It’s a mistake to assume that unhappy people in polls = more conservative votes.

Just one quibble about hateful rhetoric: that’s not just a Republican problem. We have a President calling his political opponents fascists and warning about the end of democracy.

I agree on the hateful rhetoric coming from Democrats as well. The difference is they have the media on their side to cover for them. The GOP is going to need to be more careful with the words they choose.

They also need to get their message out arguing against what democrats say. They straight up lie. I don’t watch the news, but I did watch some of the election results on NBC and some of the things they were saying were complete lies. But the republicans just take it and don’t defend themselves. All Roe v Wade did was send it back to the states to decide for themselves which is how it should be. Abortion is not illegal. If you live in a state that bans it drive to Illinois. On contrary to what these stupid mainstream media… Read more »

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
