Carter was asked if he supports having the CTA bring back its own police force, which was disbanded more than 40 years ago under former Mayor Jane Byrne. He responded, "I don't feel that that's a viable, efficient solution to the problems that we're dealing with. It would take me years to build a police department at CTA."
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
