Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. When we first moved to Indiana both neighbors came over at different times,but basically said the same thing “this is a safe neighborhood,everyone is very well armed”. We feel safer here even though we moved into a less expensive area.
Sadly the voters in Illinois have no clue about the issues and for the most part don’t care. Double the gas taxes with annual increases,forever, don’t care. Alter the criminal justice system to make the criminals victims and demonize the police and justice system, don’t care. Give unions unlimited power and control that will drive up costs for every taxpayer, don’t care. Raise utility prices, unchecked inflation, pending recession, don’t care. Useless idiots who gladly accept the government cheese.
