Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Nonsense. Their strategy didn’t work. All it did was spend more donors money making consultants richer. Prior to JB’s 2018 blowout, the last time any Republican governor received more than 2,000,000 votes was when Jim Thompson received 3,000,000 votes in 1976. In fact, 1976 was the last time ANY IL gov candidate received more than 2,000,000 votes. JB’s team knew that absent some miracle, no R candidate, Irvin, Rabine, none of them were going to receive more 2,000,000 votes. And of course JB knew that if he received more than 2,000,000 votes, he would win. And surprise, surprise, he got… Read more »
J.B. Pritzker victory fueled by nearly 20 percent bump in voter turnoutNov 7, 2018 I https://chicago.suntimes.com/2018/11/7/18424653/j-b-pritzker-victory-fueled-by-nearly-20-percent-bump-in-voter-turnout Nearly 700,000 more ballots were cast in the 2018 Illinois elections compared with 2014, and J.B. Pritzker may have received nearly all of those votes. SNIPPITY SNIP SNIP In Cook County, where more than 3 million registered voters account for about 38 percent of the state’s electorate, 295,000 more ballots were cast than in 2014, an uptick of 22 percent. Unofficially, Chicago’s turnout stands at 55.6 percent this year, the highest of any midterm election since 1986. Pritzker earned 313,000 more votes from the… Read more »
To me, this screams voter fraud/ballot harvesting/electioneering. Even Sen. Kirk elected in 2010 during a red wave got 1.778 million votes. The next midterm that office was up was this year and Duckworth got 2,198,150 million votes compared to Salvi’s 1,674,635. You’re telling me that between 2010 and 2022, IL Democrats managed to register, motive and bring to the polls hundreds of thousands more engaged and enraged Democrat voters while the the Republican party’s voter base remained fairly stable? This is the fraud and no one want to say it out loud because “that’s a conspiracy theory”. Sure, in 12… Read more »
Talk about threats to democracy…
The concept of ‘fairness’ is lost. What the Dems did was underhanded and a REAL threat to democracy.
JB spent $9.5 + $25 mil= $34.5 mil (with most of the $25 mil from dem govs association coming from pritzker family trust) to pick his trumpie opponent bailey. While nationally all the outer dem similar attempts to buy their trumpie opponents came to $19 mil combined !!!! WOW—“By their estimate then, the party leadership and outside organizations spent almost $19 million across 12 races — five gubernatorial contests, two Senate races, and five congressional races.”
