Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. The state’s existing buyout program for its own pensions is the precedent for Chicago, which should be a warning: Look out for similar exaggerated claims and shoddy analysis.

Nonsense. Their strategy didn’t work. All it did was spend more donors money making consultants richer. Prior to JB’s 2018 blowout, the last time any Republican governor received more than 2,000,000 votes was when Jim Thompson received 3,000,000 votes in 1976. In fact, 1976 was the last time ANY IL gov candidate received more than 2,000,000 votes. JB’s team knew that absent some miracle, no R candidate, Irvin, Rabine, none of them were going to receive more 2,000,000 votes. To me, this screams voter fraud/ballot harvesting/electioneering. Even Sen. Kirk elected in 2010 during a red wave got 1.778 million votes. The next midterm that office was up was this year and Duckworth got 2,198,150 million votes compared to Salvi’s 1,674,635. You’re telling me that between 2010 and 2022, IL Democrats managed to register, motive and bring to the polls hundreds of thousands more engaged and enraged Democrat voters while the the Republican party’s voter base remained fairly stable? JB spent $9.5 + $25 mil= $34.5 mil (with most of the $25 mil from dem govs association coming from pritzker family trust) to pick his trumpie opponent bailey. While nationally all the outer dem similar attempts to buy their trumpie opponents came to $19 mil combined !!!!
