Just as state government’s longtime Loop headquarters is a relic from another political era, so too is White, who first came to Springfield when Gerald Ford was president and, at 88, looks and acts as hale as he did during his first statewide run in 1998. White’s legacy extends well beyond his government and political exploits. He’s in his 63rd year heading the tumbling team that bears his name, and he came within an eyelash of being a Chicago Cub.

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. The state’s existing buyout program for its own pensions is the precedent for Chicago, which should be a warning: Look out for similar exaggerated claims and shoddy analysis.

His tumblers come to Lockport Canal Days every year, awesome young people. Yes it would be nice to read an article about a successful and productive man that didn’t once mention his skin color. This article doesn’t treat Jesse as a human individual, it treats him the way libs treat everyone, as a symbol of some other “collective”. Which in itself is bigotry. Not a successful man who, unlike so many of his peers, is untainted by scandal, but a victim of racism.

There was a time we supported NPR radio and WTTW, no more. THEY are a big part of the media problem.

I don’t know Jesse White, but I’ve met a few of the kids from the tumbling team. Kids with rough home circumstances, who found a home and a family with the tumbling team. That organization is 100% good.
Jesse had a life more successful that 99% of Americans……NPR screams RACISM!!!
