Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. During the Great Migration, my family members were pushing brooms and shovels at Chicago area steel mills, railroads and refineries. In those years, we had so many of our family working at the Jay’s Potato Chip factory on the sout’ side that their product was even served as dessert. They didn’t even speak the language. They oppressed no one. They did work their asses off so that their descendants would not have to wield those same ‘idiot sticks’ (as their bosses used to call brooms and shovels) just to scrape by. They lived four (later five) families in a three… Read more »
My family didn’t benefit from redlining, Jim Crow laws, or slavery; my ancestors were more likely to BE slaves rather than own any). Yet we are collectively expected to support ‘reparations’ because there are enough white liberals who want to assuage their feelings of guilt with other people’s money. Money intended to lift people out of poverty is being distributed with no accountability and apparently hasn’t had much of an impact. President Johnson lost his war on poverty – as most of the money-give-away programs, which are quite literally socialist-style wealth distribution, have failed. Perhaps throwing money at problems isn’t… Read more »
You can bet, if it’s back by She-Jack it’s full of corruption
Ah I see, so the Evanston blacks are still on the plantation even with the reparations deal here. Evanston… “we’ll give you $25,000 but you have to spend it on your house”. Evanston either doesn’t trust the recipients to not blow the cash, or they are using the handout to claw back some of the money in the form of higher property values and housing stock improvements. Well I guess liberal whites know what’s best for blacks right, they certainly enjoy infantilizing blacks.

Evanston’s Race Hustling Reparations Racket Is A Fraud
Evanston must explain how California determined each African American is owed $250,000 in reparations, while Evanston put the reparations at a mere $25,000. The racist white supremacists of Evanston are robbing minorities blind and need to increase their phony reparations by at least 10-fold
They should return all those fancy lakefront properties on Sheridan Road to their rightful owners, descendants of slaves.
The odd thing is that while black Evanston residents were steered to certain neighborhoods, and that was wrong, integration worked reasonably well in Evanston. One of my mentors was Willie May, the long time Evanston athletic director, an Olympic silver medalist, who made tremendous strides in race relationships by being a superb coach and administrator who cared about all students. Good people matter.
