The memo from CPD’s First Dep. Supt. Eric Carter raised some eyebrows because so many officers are affected and because the move could be framed as “putting more cops on the street” just as the mayoral election is heating up.

Woo hoo! 9 cops to a district. 3 watches, and 2 regular shifts, early car, late car, equals about 1/2 a cop per watch, if that. Wow!

Accurate analysis – most people don’t understand the reality of manning 24/7 and that nine extra officers doesn’t mean there will be nine extra officers per shift.

Unfortunately, perception is truth to the uninformed.
