Pritzker not in favor of latest tax proposal for a new Chicago Bears stadium – Center Square

Gov. J.B. Pritzker said he loves the Bears, but it is a private business. “I am of the opinion that it's not our obligation as the state to step in and provide major funding, and I certainly don’t want to burden taxpayers with major support for a private business."

Maybe the Bears should move to Green Bay, at least they might occasionally have a winning team

I have said before, Arlington Heights for the Bears is a puff of smoke. Bears are cheapskates and won’t contribute anything meaningful. Arlington Heights is too small to do it on its own. State of Illinois is broke. Metra, DOT and Tollway are broke. And public sentiment for tax support is minimal. When local taxpayers figure out what the legislation introduced recently to give the stadium a tax break will do to their local tax base, they will revolt. I hate to say it, but JB is right on this one– no state dough for this extravagant boondoggle.

“… and I certainly don’t want to burden taxpayers …” It’s time to start lessening the very high tax burden on IL taxpayers and reversing the awful trend of so many years.

Folks, everyone needs to study the Pontiac Silverdome from state supported initial conception to demolition to Amazon facility. Don’t repeat the mistake Michigan made in the 70’s.

Given the way the Lions have played since the 1960’s, considering that they had superbowl a winning QB and some of the best receivers in football, maybe, maybe the Amazon facility is an upgrade.

Debtsor, no argument from me. They’ve been a lifetime disappointment. I thought when Old man Ford died they had nowhere to go but up. Was happy to see Stafford win a Superbowl.

considering all the problems Chicago and Illinois have inflicted upon themselves , who cares what the Bears do? They usuallysuck pretty bad and their cheapskate owners don’t care either.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
