Chicago Teachers Union’s big spending on Brandon Johnson for mayor draws criticism over union influence and pushback among some members – Chicago Tribune/MSN

“They didn’t ask the (union) House of Delegates. They didn’t present financial statements showing how we’d be paid back,” said Therese Boyle, a retiree delegate who worked in Chicago Public Schools for 35 years. “It feels like they’re putting all of their eggs in this basket, and not thinking about the other important things for our union, like establishing a strike fund.”

Johnson is the CTU’s stooge candidate — he takes his marching orders from the Marxist Mobsters that run that union

They are already teaching the children. They don’t need to set aside funds to teach them as that’s the school districts job. Money from union dues is to be used for the betterment of the teachers and their ability to get the best contract. So strike fund or helping like minded politicians win elections are what’s on the menu.

I don’t understand this – its a high risk move. If Johnson doesn’t win, no matter the promises made, that union money is for the most part gone. And it is not a small amount of money. I can understand why one union member thinks it is an out of control entity from a finance perspective.

I agree willowglen. Seems like a high risk low reward kind of move. While I don’t think they need to build up a strike fund (teachers pay many times is only delayed during a strike not forfeited), not sure I see the return on investment. Although spending it on funding the schools would be silly. That’s not the purpose of the money.

I was thinking it could be considered a long-term investment if Brandon ran for Congress or something, but the teachers union wouldn’t have had to spend this much to get Brandon to DC. And who knows if Brandon will still be the new flavor in 4 years?

I think we’ve established, for the most part, they are not really teaching the children, but instead, indoctrinating them with leftist globohomo.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
