Growing number of Chicago Police officers are taking up Florida on invitation to move – CBS

chicago-police-offices-0221.png The Fort Lauderdale Police Department alone recently added eight former Chicago cops. Officer Michael Molitor went to St. Petersburg. "Down here it seems like, 'Hey, we want you guys,' and they're getting quality over quantity in Florida," he said.

Tell the cops not to forget their sunglasses and sunscreen.
Punta Gorda, Florida has more Chicago (retired) cops than Chicago has.

No state income tax and 7% sales tax, plus low property taxes. Right now it’s 78 degrees. They never have end of season sales for outdoor equipment and BBQ’s, because summer never ends.

Its a no brainer — more money — no crime enabling poliitcians who put the rights of crime-thugs first

It’s a sad state of affairs when nobody wants to be the Chicago Police. I don’t blame them though. I point the finger at progressive pols who blame the cops for everything and never the community member for his actions which result in bad optics.

Good old fashioned Ametican capitalism at work. Competition is a good thing, unless you have nothing of value to offer, like Illinois. Every day Pritzker brags about all the great things he is doing, and every day more people leave his progressive kingdom.

Little wonder DeSantis visited the police union in Illinois. Florida obtains experienced officers without the need to train them? And these experienced officers come with a positive attitude knowing they will have support. Does sound like capitalism at work.

They are giving Illinois (and PPF) the 1 finger salute. Everyone is leaving Illinois so why shouldn’t they? Illinois will hit a new high this year for outbound migration.

Trade frost burn for sun burn. No state income taxes. Much safer area. All the retired cops are in Punta Gorda, fl. Do not have to pay their fair share of the HUGE PENSION TIME BOMB going off. They are running for their safety and economic lives. The Chitty is shitty.

Good for them! I hope the officers and their families can find health and happiness serving the community.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
