Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. There’s not much demand for IL’s craft beer outside of Illinois. I’ve been to liquor stores in many surroundings states. IL craft beer, if it is even there, is little more than a novelty. That being said, IL craft beer is excellent. But IL produces far too many IPAs for export because IPAs have the reputation of being a liberal panzy blue city beer.
