Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Janus decision allows the few reamaining CTU members with a brain to opt out of CTU’s insanity and terrorism.
There is a sucker born every minute . And they join the CTU!
It will be interesting to watch how the whole ‘Brandon-n-the-CTU one and the same’ thing plays out in the campaigns. The CTU is a proudly militant union in which people who have been avowedly Socialist or Marxist have a great deal of influence. The union’s membership – teachers – elects and reelects these people by large majorities every chance they get I don’t think that much of this is credibly disputed by anyone. It would be nice if it were an election decided by sixty or seventy percent of the people who could vote having voted. Won’t be that kind… Read more »
Education is the most insular institution in the country. Teachers elect union leaders, always by large margins as you stated. Educators only allowed as principals, administrators, policy and curriculum developers. School board members don’t get elected without teacher union support (although this could be changing). No outsiders allowed; educators are the experts and they control everything. But the disaster in our schools somehow has nothing to do with educators. And now they want to spread that disaster to everything.
“But the disaster in our schools somehow has nothing to do with educators.” Exactly correct. We read that here frequently – teachers are just ‘following orders,’ and doing an excellent job of it according to their evaluations. This, even though more kids – many more – can’t function at grade-level than those who can. Over 30% ‘graduate’ from high school having failed to meet academic standards. In any sort of sensible ‘real world’ of personal accountability, kids who finish high school able to perform at grade-level would ‘graduate,’ and those who can’t would get a certificate of participation of some… Read more »
A participation trophy might be nice.
What, downvoter, don’t you appreciate participation trophies?
They’ve been infiltrated by communists who now control the institution and create artificial and ideological barriers for non-communists. Few normal teenagers aspire to be teachers any more. Heck my son’s school librarian, no more than 24 or 25 years old, is a pronoun person with short hair and a non-binary short hair, weird glasses look. The books them promotes all have BIPOC children on the cover in a school full of white kids. Her personal webpage with the schools lists all these anti-racist and CRT books that are her favs. This librarian went to college with an agenda and she… Read more »
This article just made up my mind. If, by some stretch of the imagination, Brandon Johnson wins this election my house will be up for sale the next day. CTU just stated out loud that they are going to buy the election, which in and of itself, sounds not only unethical but illegal
It’s not. Money is free speech according to the courts so it’s perfectly allowable and legal.
More selective outrage. Were you thinking the same thing when Griffen tried to “buy” the election?
I will give you (and the state) the 1 finger Salute on my way out. With Pleasure you can have the mess you have created.
Promises promises. Unfortunately you don’t have the courage to leave so you’ll just have to keep playing pretend.
You will see, hundreds of thousands are fleeing. The hardest part of getting out it the traffic jam fleeing this Sorry State that you have created. I will NEVER tell anyone that I lived in Illinois, it is to embarrassing.
Why are you such a coward. Work up the courage and make it happen. Show some pride man.
Why wait to leave? With so much debt already accrued, the city (and state) will eventually collapse. Vallas, even if he is a good/honest leader, can only slow down the inevitable outcome.
People talk about leaving here all the time. It’s like all the liberals that threatened to leave America if Trump was elected. Yet they never left. They were all talk just like most of the commenters on here.
Couldn’t CTU find a way to resurrect Josef Stalin as a candidate?
Best investment they could ever make. The politicians will give them 10 times (or more) back with taxpayer money.
