Illinois sheriffs’ opposition to enforcing weapons ban signals rightward movement about constitutional authority – Chicago Tribune/MSN

The constitutional sheriffs movement has percolated across the nation as some sheriffs have vowed to not enforce laws ranging from gun bans to COVID-19 restrictions. But it garnered new strength in Illinois this year with Democratic Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s signing of the Protect Illinois Communities Act.

If by “rightward movement” she meant “correct movement” I would wholeheartedly agree with her…

But I know she meant it in a derogatory way…

About the only plus to this article is her readers have to be hyperventilating over all the horrible things she mentioned.

I cancelled our Chicago Tribune Subscription 11 years ago (2012) and have never looked back. These people are a disgrace.

Funny how they bad mouth the sheriffs for not enforcing an unconstitutional law but they don’t go after the Soros backed States attorneys who won’t enforce the laws on the books.

This rightward movement is a natural reaction to the overall Leftward drift as far as just about everything else is concerned.

Yeah, I don’t read Trib articles, and certainly not ones with Rep. Kelly “Moloch Priestess”
Cassidy quoted in the article. Fortunately, the Trib has such little influence anymore, few bother to read these articles anyway.

What an appalling article, conflating what the sheriffs have done here with the wacky “constitutional sheriffs” thing and “Christian nationalism. “Just taking orders” is the mentality these authors apparently believe in. Sheriffs and all public officials have not just the right but the duty to refuse to enforce a law they reasonably believe is unconstitutional, unless and until courts say otherwise. And Kelly Cassidy has the sheriffs’ oath exactly wrong. It says they should uphold the constitution, not laws passed by the legislature. We wrote about this here: https://wirepoints.org/stop-saying-illinois-sheriffs-should-ignore-the-constitution-on-what-they-enforce-wirepoints/

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
