Anger over pandemic mandates has morphed into outrage, injecting Washington-style polarization into discussions among neighbors about what kids are being taught in the classroom and what’s available on school library shelves. The candidates also heard from Ted Dabrowski, president of the conservative advocacy group Wirepoints and a member of a North Shore group called New Trier Neighbors that has pushed for restricting LGBTQ content in local schools.
This is a mighty one-sided column. They omitted the many examples of how the parent’s-rights reformers have beens subject to the same kind of abusive attacks they attribute to the reformers only. And the article says this: “Dabrowski emphasized that using the public’s concerns over declining test scores — a statewide and nationwide phenomenon in the wake of the pandemic and associated school closures — was a good way to connect with moderate voters.” No, schools were in decline long before the pandemic here and around the country long before the pandemic, as we have often written.
I got about five or six paragraphs in and stopped reading precisely because it was so one-sided. The reality is that progressives are wildly unpopular in the suburbs but manage to get elected by a small handful of like-minded committed voters. They know their policies are unpopular. But they’re not engaged in a popularity contest. They are engaged in a spiritual and ideological battle to disrupt the existing reorder and replace it with a version of their own. That’s why hundreds of parents can scream at them about masking and gay books and they double-down on their unpopular positions. The… Read more »
““We don’t all have to believe the same things but to see the attacks is just sad. It makes me really sad.”” The commie gets sad when parents don’t want their children sterilized and their genitals mutilated? Parents call you bad names when you teach them CRT instead of the ABC’s? “Why won’t they let me harm their children? I just believe different things!” Screw you commie, you are the enemy, and we won’t stop until you are destroyed politically, emotionally and financially, and your life is destroyed just like you’ve intentionally harmed the children. It won’t be long before,… Read more »
CRT is not taught in any K-12 school in the nation. It’s taught in law school. If you want lousy southern schools, move to the south instead of injecting their stupidity in Illinois schools. Your safe space is down there.
Mike, that’s often said by the left, and it’s nonsense. It was true 40 years ago, when I happen to have had a law prof who was one of the foundational CRT proponents. But CRT sure is taught widely across much of the nation in K-12 today, though often avoiding that label, and sometimes not including all its modern elements. And those elements are very different today than 40 years ago.
LOL. The irony is that progressives are only against banning straight pornography. They’re totally OK and encourage gay pornography. Pointing out this hypocritical double-standard makes you a homophobe racists hate mongerer.
Just the other day, a congresswoman asked some library board president if Penthouse should be allowed in school libraries and she dodged the question half a dozen times.
They’re not stupid, they know what they’re doing. They know these books are gay pornography and they’re OK with it.
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.

That was a polite way of putting it – “a small handful of like-minded committed voters”. And who might that handful of committed voters be? Hmmmm…..
Communists.
You stopped at the Scopes Monkey Trial thing? You didn’t think the comparison of school activists to evolution deniers was fair? Can’t imagine why; )
