Illinois commission seeks public input on potential statewide reparations program – Daily Northwestern

In addition to reparations, the commission is looking at other possible remedies for racial inequity, including the creation of a vocational center for African American citizens, the assurance of proportional economic representation of African American citizens in all state contracts and the development of a state Slavery Era Disclosure bill. Disclosure laws, passed in cities like Chicago and San Francisco, require companies applying for government contracts to disclose whether they profited from slavery.

We can all be intersectionally “race fluid”, so we can identify as whatever we want, to get the most of whatever they are giving away. This was supposed to be a joke, but Good god, as I type this, I think I got dumber.

Best argument against this nonsense I’ve heard yet. Thanks for pointing out the obvious.

“More whites were brought as slaves to North Africa than blacks brought as slaves to the United States or to the 13 colonies from which it was formed. White slaves were still being bought and sold in the Ottoman Empire, decades after blacks were freed in the United States.” – Thomas Sowell

It would be interesting to know how many of these “slaves” were really treated like family, and might otherwise not have any other form of sustenance. In the pre-welfare past, I have been told people who did not work, “did not eat”, though some support from the church and other organizations must have played a part.

The welfare train for certain ethnicities never ends. Gimme, gimme, gimme are some of the first words learned along with the handling out of the unlimited use, no expiration date race card. My parents are immigrants who arrived in the 1920’s and never owned anybody. My family history is of people coming to America for a better life, getting a job, working hard and moving through the system to get better jobs. Welfare was called “being on the dole” and every family member would have been embarrassed to death if they applied or accepted welfare. Hard work, coal miners, factory… Read more »

How about this. GET A JOB make money. Stop trying to get something for doing nothing. Being on government programs will not increase our wealth. It will stifle it.

20+ years ago the company for which I worked (founded in 1939), received a letter from the state of Illinois Department of Insurance requiring a written account of the company’s slave ownership, dates, names, locations, etc. I guess Illinois departments didn’t communicate OR don’t have a working understanding of history to ask a company founded in the 20th century about their slave holding in the 19th century. I drafted and submitted a letter explaining that a company that didn’t exist prior to 1865 couldn’t own slaves. The commission should seriously consider disbanding and getting real jobs. It’s more woke nonsense:… Read more »

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
