Stalled stadium talks in Arlington Heights create opening for Chicago mayor — if he’s willing to rewrite his playbook – Chicago Sun-Times

Brandon Johnson is under intense pressure to deliver on his campaign promise to make $1 billion worth of “investments in people.” The smorgasbord of jobs, education, mental health and social programs is the cornerstone of the new mayor’s anti-violence strategy; he migrant crisis has turned up the heat on Johnson even further. Against that “what about us?” backdrop, it would be tough to imagine Johnson moving a new stadium for the Bears to the top of his “to do” list — before reparations for descendants of slaves, creating a dedicated funding source to reduce homelessness or reopening Chicago’s mental health clinics.

The Bears are screwed and will be playing in Soldier Field ten and twenty years from now. It was always a non-starter in AH. There is not now and won’t in the foreseeable future any demand for all the commercial space the Bears blathered about. And none of those sites in Chicago that are mentioned will ever work. The neighbors won’t want it and the infrastructure costs at any of them will be huge– way to much for a broke city and state and a socialist mayor. And Naperville? Won’t happen. So what else could the land be used for? Possibly a massive low income housing project.
I don’t think residents would be happy with that choice.

He’d be a fool to drop foot in this mess. Just let it be and look,like a hero. The Bears want everything and everything free. They will soon come back to SF with a new coat of paint. Stay out of it ! Let the Besrs fix it.
