Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Watching the misery from Tennessee and loving it. Go Chicago/Illinois public unions!!!! Take it all. Every penny. Show no mercy.
Maybe far fetched, CTU/Brandon was a paid lobbyist for CTU. Is this a perk he can $chash$ in on as pension sweetener for his being a teacher for 4 years and CTU lobbyist? Is his gaurenteeted TEIR I $multi-million$ retire at 55 pension still thru CPS? Or, has he even provided any proof he has ended his CTU membership as promised at election?
The legality of Public sector union’s lobbying needs to be litigated in front of the US Supreme Court. Their benefits and pay are out of control and in several states now the public sector unions have monopoly power.
All are corrupt Dem and public union controlled cesspools!!!
Maybe no one has done so because they recognize it as free speech no different than any other lobbyists. The people of Illinois believe so much in collective bargaining and forming a union that they enshrined it into our constitution. The voters want it just the way it is.
What you mean to say, I think, is that a majority of those who vote want it just the way it is.
Sadly, that seems to be true.
Yet, another no collective bargaining required perk granted? Why only teachers? It can only be a matter of time before all are other public sec hero unions will be demanding equal deals all on the taxpayers dime. (add to– covid sick days, covid disabilities benefits, 12w parental leave, etc)
This isn’t on the taxpayers dime. The unions are required to pay the costs for the school district associated with getting a substitute teacher for the time out. Not sure what costs your concerned about.
Your saying the cost of full time teachers salary + benefits is equal cost of substitute? Also, not to mention kids, parents & taxpayers getting stuck with even more substitutes …yah, I’d say this is bills on the taxpayers dime
I didn’t say that. Again, what expense is added to the district? The district is paying for the teacher either way but now needs to hire a substitute teacher for the day. That cost is covered by the union. So again, what additional expense is the district paying for? So no, this is not on the taxpayers dime.
Illinois public employee unions are the filthy cancer that is killing Illinois
How about letting them use one of their 159 sick days?
Unions are completely out of control. The taxpayer works for them, they do not work for the taxpayer.
