Hours-long Lakeview street takeover ends with at least 2 arrests – CWB Chicago

Belmont Avenue was shut down for several hours as people danced on cars and blocked the road. At one point, a Chicago police supervisor estimated that 300 people were in the crowd. The takeover is a repeat performance of a similar incident in the same location on the day after last year’s Chicago Pride Parade.

Young professionals living in Lakeview area have had enough of the worsening crime – watch the area empty out.

“at least two arrests”. Two.

Nuff said.

Northsiders scream and clutch their pearls when youths cause mayhem in their neighborhoods. They’re quickly realizing they are no longer in charge of Chicago; and leadership don’t see any problems with silly kids having fun. In fact, leadership finds it humorous when Lake View residents complain about a little property damage. No one was shot, no one was hurt, no property was looted, this was a ‘non-incident’ by any other measure. Northsiders are nothing more than than the marks who pay taxes to fund the city’s operation. BIPOC have suffered oppression by Chicago’s systemic racism for over 150 years; complaints… Read more »

Oh, and I forgot to mention– 300 rioters and two arrests! Sounds like a tough law and order city to me.

Old Spartan, tough law and order is more measured by prosecutions (with consequences) versus arrests (most likely resulting in no consequences with Kim Fox and these judges.). Let’s keep our eye on the issue here. Also, if I was a cop, I would be more worried about losing my job because 100 kids have their cell phone focused on me, trying to get the right angle that “shows” some infraction (by the cop), than some “silly” kids dancing on a car. The media in this city never portrays the dancing as a crime. So why risk the actions to effect… Read more »

Cops got a lot of overtime to spike their pensions. This worked out well for them.
Do not be surprised if it does not happen again soon.

As usual the media declines to identify the race of the majority of the youths letting off some pent up anger. Kinda like the story the White supremacists are the problem and innocent, law abiding gun owners are the problem. Tell, the, truth, who, is, the problem!

But as usual, no one wants to talk about who the stars of all the videos are. If you won’t identify the troublemakers, how will you ever solve the problem. of course, we won’t.

So it seems like the different city departments can’t work together when street takeovers occur. Police try to get CTA buses to stop delivering more partygoers and they try to get barricades up but it can’t happen. Chicago does not have the manpower and authority and plans-in-place to handle these volatile situations. Looks like it takes cooperation across the board. Mayor and Governor and aldermen and CTA officials etc. should meet with law enforcement and give them what they need.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
