Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. No dense urban area anywhere in the world can handle this much rain in such a short period of time. It’s not a failure of the deep tunnel as much as it is a failure of a homeowner with a 100 year old property that fails to install a flood control system after 100 years of flooding. Heavy summertime rain in Chicago is nothing new: Buckets of rain drenched the Chicago area: The cloudbursts of June 10, 1967 Tom Skilling It was shortly after noon when the first peals of thunder rumbled across the Chicago area on a warm and… Read more »
And the clerics of Climate once again attempt to force an inference into actual causation. This is simply a spot of bad weather, but the propagandists can’t resist the opportunity to advance their religion of climate on the great unwashed.
Journalism is dead.
Chicago journalism’s corpse is long cold at this point.
Trib forgot to mention the restrictors on storm-sewer street covers, significantly reducing street sewer intake of rainwater, raising rainwater levels in street to flood basement entry stairs.
We relied on the three-foot tall screw-in floor drain pipe attachment handyman-remedy, one pipe inserted at each threaded basement floor drain-pipe, to prevent basement flooding from sewer-water backflow. Reliable low-cost fix.
Every home prone to backup should be retrofitted with a backflow preventer – pretty simple way to mitigate storm surge or other mishaps like sewer cleaning. W/o a backflow valve, your neighbor blows their guts out and it ends up in your basement. But then again, Chicago can’t even get it’s act together on lead pipes. Once again, city leadership with their priority on everything but taxpayers.
The Only answer is to raise taxes again.
Fake news fraud media can’t tell the difference between
— “weather” — today’s atmospheric conditions
and
— “climate” — long term trends of atmospheric conditions over decades and centuries
Streets have flooded during summer storms since long before the climate cucks and their hysterical global warning hoax
Everyone needs to ignore the “Climate Change” fear mongering. They did the same thing with COVID. Wake up and ignore all of it.
It’s their religion. They believe it with their whole heart and soul. Anything that threatens their religion, like actual temperature data from prior to 1983, sends them into a religious frenzy. When you get actual data, you don’t need belief, and climate data simply isn’t on their side.
The clerics will have none of this from the heretics.
3 $ billion and 30 years. Later and does bo work as.designed? Let’s blame climate change.
a major boondoggle, but very interesting. A sewer ptoject that can be seen from space; wow!
