Ralph Martire: With affirmative action gone, states have a duty to eliminate inequity in public schools – Chicago Sun-Times

"Historically, Illinois has over-relied on local property taxes to fund K-12 education, effectively tying educational quality to local property wealth...This has created a highly segregated public school system that for generations has put many Black children at a disadvantage compared to their white peers. Black kids simply have had less opportunity to develop the numeracy/literacy skills needed to do well on standardized tests and thus punch a ticket into an elite university."

The US Supreme Court said discrimination based on race is illegal. Ralph disagrees. Got it.

Our constitution is directly opposed to today’s progressive dogma because the constitution is an obstacle to their politics. Today, progressives believe that Ibraim X. Kendi’s vision of America should be: ‘The Only Remedy to Past Discrimination Is Present Discrimination’. And that’s the thing with progressive politics, ‘progress’ means ever changing political views, today it’s state sanctioned racism, tomorrow it’s throwing deplorables into camps. But the 14th Amendment ratified in 1868 is an obstacle to the progressive vision of America. A progressive America would look very, very different than what our constitution currently provides for. In fact, the 14th Amendment, and… Read more »

This guy is such a boob. Affirmative action is nothing more than racial discrimination. The best and brightest should go to the elite universities, that’s how capitalism works. Maybe CPS should do a better job of preparing its student to get into ANY college. I don’t have a great degree from a great college but I ended up being fairly successful. I have a friend that barely graduated high school and he’s more successful than me. Hard work and respect will get you a lot further than education and a bad attitude.

His narrative is awful. It was acceptable to have blacks receive a lousy education so long as affirmative action was available at our top 100 or schools, the only place where affirmative action has mattered; a relatively small slice of the population?

Ralph clutches his pearls as he ignorantly rages on after losing one of the most important spoils system run by the Democrat Party. Ralph knows that discrimination based upon race is wrong in every context, but he must, like a supplicating fool, recite the Kendiism antiracist slogan: ‘The Only Remedy to Past Discrimination Is Present Discrimination”.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
